Civil Engineering Common Curriculum

Education

PROGRAM

The Universidad Tecnica Federico Santa Maria offers students who have not yet decided on an area of engineering to study, the possibility of entering the Civil Engineering Common Curriculum study program. This program allows students to become familiar with the different specialties offered by the USM.

APPLICATIONS

The application process begins when students pass the courses of the first year of the study program. It continues with the selection of a specialty, according to the offer of the campus where the student is enrolled (Main Campus, Valparaíso or San Joaquin Campus). Finally, the assignment of the specialty is established according to the academic performance relative to the rest of the students of their generation.

Main requirement for admission to the specialty: Pass 100% of the credits of the courses corresponding to the first two semesters of the Study Plan

SELECTION

For the selection process, the only parameter used is the academic performance of the students in the courses of the first year of the study plan, which defines the position that the student will have in the ranking that allows access to the specialty. This process is competitive and considers exclusively the academic results obtained in the first two semesters of the Civil Engineering Common Curriculum study program. Through periodic simulations, each student can analyze his/her possibilities of accessing the specialty of his/her preference, according to the grades obtained in the first-year courses.

VACANCIES

The total number of vacancies available for the specializations is equal to the number of students enrolled in the study program, ensuring each student a vacancy in one of the USM majors according to the campus of origin. The number of vacancies for each of the specialties are published on the website www.usm.cl/admision.
