Office of the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

The Office of the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs is the seat of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The latter is the superior authority that assists the President in the scope of his competence and is responsible for the academic progress of the University, in accordance with the academic policies set forth by the President and the Superior Council, and the regulations in force.

The Office of the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs is made up of the Head Office of Teaching and Learning, the Head Office of Technical Assistance, the Office of Postgraduate Education and Affairs, the Office of Distance Education, the Office of Academic Employment and Faculty Development, the Department of Self-evaluation and Quality, and the Department of Institutional Academic Projects Control.

In turn, the Head Office of Teaching and Learning is the authority responsible for supporting and advising the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs in the development of teaching activities at the University. The Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs directly supervises and coordinates the Office of Students Affairs, the Office of Admission, the Office of Teaching and Learning and the Office of Bibliographic and Digital Information.

About the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

He is an Industrial Civil Engineer with DEA, MSc and PhD from the University of Poitiers, working as a research associate at the ENSMA School of Engineering and the CNRS of France. He served as a Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh and as a Maître de Conférences at Aix-Marseille Université. Since 2009 he has been an Academician of the USM Department of Industries where he is a Full Professor. He is currently an Associate Editor of the Fire Safety Journal. Between 2016 and 2020 he was Academic Advisor, as well as Director of the Master of Science in Industrial Engineering (MIIsc) between 2012 and 2020, currently Director of the Master of Technological Innovation and Entrepreneurship (MITE) and Founder of the PhD Program in Applied Engineering at the USM. Likewise, he was a Member and Director of the Engineering Study Group 1 of Fondecyt. During his career, he has obtained various recognitions as a researcher, obtaining the Silver Combustion Medal (2018) and Distinguished Paper (2016) from the Combustion Institute. As a teacher, he has been distinguished as Outstanding Teacher during the years 2013, 2015 and 2022, he has also been Guest Professor at the University of Rouen, France, PUCRio, Brazil and BIT, China.
